Budi Soehardi

  Founder of Roslin Orphanage, Kupang

Pak Budi as people call him, left a high flying job as a SIA Pilot to serve the lost and wounder in East Timor, spurred by the need to do something for his homeland. He founded a children’s home in one of the poorest areas of Indonesia with just his own finances and the help of friends. Today, Roslin Orphanage in West Timor provides food, shelter and education to more than 100 children and have enabled more than 15 kids completed their degrees and have also opened up a home in Jakarta and one more in Bandung.

His orphanage is fully self sustaining with a vast vegetable farming, fruit farms, eco-tourism homestay and a school for the pre-school kids for the home and for the poor communities around the orphanage. They produce moringa and fruits that supply to other regions and also started a fish farm during the covid pandemic.

His entrepreneurial mindset enabled the orphanage to be self sufficient and provided jobs to the local communities. The farm has also become a research case study for many agriculture experts due to the experimentation Pak Budi and the kids do on an ongoing basis.

His story and principles in life inspire anyone with a dream to build lasting legacies.
